This article’s purpose is to show why you should visit Sanremo, one of Italy’s prettiest lesser-known treasures, where you guessed it, is easiest to access by connecting via Ryanair…and cheap too!
Tucked away along Italy’s northwestern coastline is a paradise where incredible eats and beach vibes galore.
Italy’s Goldilocks Zone
August has arrived, meaning summer is already winding down. Can you believe it?!
As much of Europe rages with dreadful heat, including some popular destinations in Italy, the northwestern coast, especially Sanremo, is just right.
For the remainder of August, you can expect temps hovering in the 80s, a comfortable range for beachgoers.
Not too hot, and not too cold.
Unlike, say, Barcelona, where temperatures are still in the 90s, Sanremo is perfect for lounging at the beach, going for a swim, or exploring all the charming sites of this historic city without melting into mush.
The Italian Riviera’s Little Known Paradise
Often outshined by the Amalfi Coast, let’s not forget France isn’t the only ‘Riviera’ worth a splendid vacation.
The Italian Riveria, also referred to as the Ligurian Riviera, stretches from the outskirts of Monaco beyond Genoa with scenic stops dotting the coast, including beautiful Sanremo.
Brimming with crystal clear waters and vibrant streets oozing character at every turn, you’ll forget all about Rome’s Colosseum, crowded Amalfi beaches, and the romance of Venice.
In fact, some would say Sanremo bestows more of a Mediterranean vibe than Italian flair, but “tomato, tomahto”. Paradise is paradise.

Renting a pair of beach chairs and umbrella only sets you back about $10, all the more reason to splurge on local cuisine.
Explore The Heart Of Sanremo
No matter the destination, the city center is typically where to find the action.
While Sanremo is generally laid-back, the delightful cobbled streets and narrow nooks and crannies are made to be explored.
Fair warning: prepare for sensory overload through eye-popping sites and the tastes and aromas of Italy’s world-renowned cuisine.
And who doesn’t love any excuse for a cappuccino?
Some of the more popular destinations across the globe dent your bank account just to indulge in one meal, but not in Sanremo.
A local brew will run you about $2, while local delicacies like Cappon Magro and Ligurian Pasta shouldn’t cost more than $15 – definitely not outrageous.
Make sure to save room for desert for Baci di Sanremo, a batch of soft chocolate biscuits served with coffee.
After fueling up, exploring the city by foot is a great way to absorb all of Sanremo’s vibrant sites, including the unmissable San Siro Cathedral.
Getting Here
Circling back, Ryanair is your most convenient gateway and oftentimes the cheapest, with flights under $22, according to the Irish Sun.
Travelers can fly into Nice, France and take an hour and a half journey to Sanremo via Flixbus and/or Lignes d’Azur.
Sanremo does not have an airport, so this is the most efficient route behind flying to Genoa.
